De Rosa bikes played a big role in the career of Eddy Merckx who rode Ugo De Rosa's bikes for much of his riding life. Merckx and De Rosa's partnership proved a successful one, taking five Tours de France, five Giro d'Italia wins, seven Milan San Remo's and three world championships as well has numerous other stages, one day races and grand tours. In 1980 Eddy Merckx launched his own brand of bikes, using knowledge and skills learned from Ugo De Rosa.
